Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
It is his first trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
